Biography
Elijah F. Boston was born in South Berwick, Maine. He lived in the family home on Earls Road, South Berwick, Maine. The June 4, 1860 census has him living with his parents.[8] He was a Private in Company B in the 27th Me. during the civil war.[2][3][9] Elijah married Mercy Boston Plaisted (née Boston) on March 6, 1868 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire by Justice of the Peace W. H. Hackett.[4][7] !870 census dated June 24 he is living with his parents and is listed as a Farmer.[10] June 23, 1880 census states he is a Farmer and his wife Mercy is Keeping House, also list three children and his mother are living with him.[5] The June 16, 1900 census list Elijah as a Farmer living on "Geo O Earl" Road with twelve other family members. [6] In the April 28, 1910 census he is still listed as a Farmer under occupation and General Farm under Industry and only his wife and two children, which appear to be grandchildren.[11] Elijah died the second day after a cerebral hemorhage and the contributing cause was five years with cancer to the lower face.[1] The reporting doctor was F. A. Ross MD and Elijah was buried July 26, 1917.[1] The undertaker was A. McIntire of South Berwick, Maine.[1] He is buried in the family plot in the field behind the family house.[2][3] His son Almon applied for a tomb stone for him in 1940.[2][3] Gladys Hasty Carroll mentions Elijah in Dunnybrook.
