James Chase

Biography

James was born in Newbury, Newtown Massachusetts.^[5] He married Almira Payne. She died April 19, 1895.^[6][7][8] He is mentioned in his fathers will and is one of the executors.^[9] As early as September 10, 1850 James was living in New York as a Furrier for an occupation.^[10] In the New York 1855 census James was listed as a Fur Trader^[11] and by 1860 he is working as a merchant, most likely still in the Fur Trade.^[12] June 15, 1865 census has him as a Furrier and only 2 of his 4 children living with him.^[13] The census of 1870 list James as a Fur Trader.^[14] In 1875 the New York Census has 4 people listed as residents in his home.^[15] At the time of his death he lived at 281 President Street, Brooklyn, New York.^[16]
